Great question. As it turns out, yes, this is a good formula for helping you perspire. That’s kind of its original goal in fact. However it is a gentle sweat, controlled and balanced by two pairs of herbs in this formula. This balance actually makes this formula one of the most famous in all of Chinese medicine.
The gui zhi cinnamon twig is spicy and warm. This produces a light sweat. However if you sweat too much, that’s bad, so we add the sour bai shao peony root to prevent too much sweat from coming out. The gui zhi is your accelerator and the bai shao is the brake.
There’s another pair of herbs that have this balanced relationship in this formula as well. The sheng jiang ginger root is the hot and spicy herb that supports perspiration while the da zao red date is the sour partner that controls that effect.
Great formula, very safe for everybody. Thanks for the question, great idea to use this as part of a detox program.
