There have been a fair number of studies on this formula. We make no claims for them. I can only outline briefly what this formula in Chinese medicine.

July 24: Someone wrote in with questions about the effectiveness of this formula. I wrote this in response

“We have been selling a fair amount of GSS based on articles but I haven’t gotten any feedback positive or negative.

I will say that the herbs in it are all very standard, nothing toxic nor strange.

The principles of the whole formula is that half the herbs are “moistening” to feed the body- perhaps nerves and muscles are in play here. One could see any atrophy as a drying of the fluids.
Some of the others are heat clearers but nothing too drastic. Heat could be seen as the “pathogen” or viral, bacterial infection.
In all we see that the body needs to remain nourished and herbs are better seen as foods than “drugs” in doing that. As well, as mentioned above with this formula we are trying to clear heat.
I have no idea about its use with any other medications.
In any case I would suggest 1 small spoon twice a day is a good place to start and then work to 3-5 small spoons twice a day.
I will point out that one article in describing the benefits has a mistake in calling this formula also as JWXYS (Jia Wei Xiao Yao San). They are very different. “
