Details of Rehmannia Eight Formula with out Fu Zi
Deeply nourishing, even Rehmannia's roots grow deep.
Deeply nourishing, even Rehmannia’s roots grow deep.

This extraordinary formula does it all. Three herbs to urinate out edema, three herbs to prevent frequent urination, and two herbs to warm the underlying deficiency and three herbs to prevent frequent urination.

This formula’s original name translates to the “Kidney qi pill” which is to say that it normalizes the functions of the Kidneys and their many functions. Whether you’re peeing too much or not enough, the Kidney qi pill will get you going in the right direction and more importantly in the right amount. Our research has proven that the drug is a feature of the possibility of use in diabetes mellitus. Unlike other drugs (for example, Viagra – 5 hours), duration of Cialis is up to 36 hours. Alcohol is allowed within reasonable limits, and when taken, the effect is not related to food intake and is available to men of any age (from 18 years).

Of course, in Chinese medicine, “Kidney qi” or functions are not limited solely to regulating urination. Kidney qi is what tends to become deficient as we age (according to Chinese medical knowledge). As such, this formula can help to regulate the quality of your hearing, low back pain that is aggravated by fatigue, knee weakness or pain, bone density, and libido. These are all reliant on the health of the Kidneys, and the Kidney qi pill is the core herbal approach to these issues.

Ingredients

Not Included in On-line Formula. _ Fu Zi 附子 Prepared daughter root of Sichuan aconite Radix Lateralis Aconiti Carmichaeli Praeparata [don’t use if pregnant] [This herb is not included in the on-line formula. In place of Fu Zi we use a higher dosage of Rou Gui. The reason is that Fu Zi is a safe herb but if not used correctly for the correct condition can cause side effects. Fu Zi is needed in some cases, as examples: the aged or those with heart conditions. As an aphrodisiac or libido enhancer I wouldn’t even go there as it depends totally on the patient’s condition and usually its not Yang Deficiency. Those persons who feel they need the use of Fu Zi you can order here or if you want a consultation.]

Rou Gui 肉桂 inner bark of Saigon cinnamon, cinnamon bark Cinnamomi Cortex [don’t use if pregnant– or without advise of a professional herbalist]

      • These two herbs are warming and spicy. They’re the fire that burns, like the spark in your car’s engine that ignites the fuel, giving rise to the qi power of this formula. Plus rou gui (cinnamon bark) tastes good. So there’s that too. :)

Shu Di Huang 生地黃 Chinese foxglove root, rehmannia (prep),Rehmannia root Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae

Shan Yao 山藥 dioscorea rhizome, Chinese yam Dioscoreae Rhizoma

Shan Zhu Yu 山茱萸 Asiatic cornelian cherry fruit, cornus Corni Fructus

      • These three herbs all help the body produce more fluids. This fluid is the fuel that is burned by the two warming herbs above. Sheng Di Huang is a very deep root that nourishes the body fluids deeply (picture above). Shan yao (a yam) and shan zhu yu (a sour cherry) round out the moistening and nourishing herbs in this formula. Because of shan zhu yu’s sour nature, it helps suck in excessive urination to address frequent urination or dribbling after you’re done.

Mu Dan Pi 牡丹皮 moutan root bark, tree peony root bark Cortex Moutan Radicis

Fu Ling 茯苓 sclerotium of tuckahoe, China root, hoelen, Indian bread Poria Cocos

Ze Xie 澤瀉 alisma rhizome, water plantain Rhizoma Alismatis Orientalis [supports pregnancy]

      • Mu dan pi is teamed up with the two diuretics fu ling and ze xie in order to stimulate blood flow in the urogenital system. This regulates one of the key Kidney functions, which is water metabolism. Folks who seek out the benefits from this formula often do so in order to regulate their urinary output.

  1. Hi
I was wondering if rehmannia eight formula is suitable for me,I have pale red tongue (almost pink) with thin pale yellowish coating, some small cracks on middle and some red dots on lower burner with teeth marks on sides. I don’t have any symptoms just premature ejaculation which its been with me for many years. Do you think this formula would tonify my kidny yin and it’s qi?
    Thanks

  2. Hey Rey,

This formula is for those who lack physiological heat (or “kidney yang”). The tongue appearance for this condition does include teethmarks, but the tongue would be pale, not pink or light red.

The tongue would not have any red dots either, which indicate heat. This formula is for those who lack heat. Also; there are some large red dots, more like small circles really, that can appear on the back of the tongue. Not everybody has this, but many do. It doesn’t indicate a problem, its just something that many tongues have.

Small cracks can indicate a deficiency of body fluids or Kidney Yin. If this is the case, a related formula is probably better for you called Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Rehmannia Formula if you got hot easily and Rehmannia Six Combination if you don’t.

I actually have some sample tongues described on the EagleHerbs page devoted to premature ejaculation.

  3. Love your website! Can Rehmannia 8 be useful for diabetic neuropathy with addition of plantagoseed and achyranthes?

Also, do you have any continuing ed. seminars coming up fall 2014?

  4. Su,
    Sorry, no seminars planned.
Can Rehmannia 8 be useful for this condition? Well, yes under the right circumstances but might not under others. If a herbal professional saw or talked to you about your overall condition then it may be appropriate. I also have to careful in saying this because we can’t make “disease claims” such as diabetic neuropathy without incurring the wrath of the FDA (and in many cases for good reasons). Hope this helps somewhat.
    Doug

  5. Hi,
I have been told by TCM that I have kidney yang deficiency. I have teeth marks on side of tongue and lower back pains and weak leg (especially around menstration). Since some of the formula in Rehmannia 8 is not suitable for pregnancy, I was wondering what formula would be best to treat kidney yang deficiency if I would also like to get pregnant?
    Thanks

  6. Rehumannia 8 has precautions if taken while pregnant but it is safe to take until then. In fact it may help you conceive. If you think this is the right formula for you I wouldn’t hesitate to have you take it.

  7. I just got the Jin Gui Shen qi wan prescribed from my acupuncturist. While looking up this formula on the internet i came across this page – if understood correctly – it’s not advised to take during pregnancy?
Thanks in advance for the advice

  8. Thanks for pointing this out. As an on-line company we have to be especially cautious about pregnancy and what people might have read from other sources. There is nothing inherently toxic about Rou Gui or Fu Zi if prepared and prescribed properly. If this was prescribed by your acupuncturist then I would say that s/he’s advise is best than reading our page. Sorry to scare you or cast doubt on your acupuncturist’s judgement. In the right conditions this is often the very appropriate formula in pregnancy. I have changed the wording to include “without the advise of a professional herbalist”.

  9. looking for something for bph, this formula came up. Not much mentioned about men’s health, lots about vaginas. Just wondering if this would help my patient.
