Note: Avoid use if pregnant. This formula stimulates blood flow, which you don’t want if you’re pregnant. So avoid this formula unless you are being directed by a TCM professional to take it.
Note: this formula is also used to regulate the menstrual flow (same action as above, actually). If you find that your menstrual flow becomes heavy while taking this formula, just stop taking it during your period. Others however will find that cramps improve or other menstrual irregularities become more “regular”.
This formula doesn’t work overnight, though you may notice its effects at night. :) Give this formula anywhere from two weeks to two months to achieve your goals. It’ll work quicker for those who are younger, and take a little longer for those who are older. More at the Prognosis-O-Matic.
Hi Al: I love your website…loads of info, with touches of great humour…just love it! A question: I’m an acupuncturist in BC, Canada. My mom is 86 and has suffered with atrophic vaginitis for years. Have you used Vagex for this problem? Thanks, Anita
Hi, Anita. I haven’t treated A.V. specifically with this formula, but the symptoms line up very well with the treatment principles which are to nourish the blood (addressing dryness) and stimulating micro-circulation (addressing hardness and discomfort). Makes a lot of sense to me, especially if her tongue is pale. If it is deep red, we’re still okay, because some of the blood moving herbs in this formula also clear heat.
You know, in China there is a modern trend that addresses all aging as blood stagnation. Even biomedicine gives baby aspirin to elderly as a preventive for heart disease. Still, much of the benefits of baby aspirin is to address the so-called “inflamaging” which is the theory that inflammatory responses at the level of micro-capillaries is what causes much of what we call the aging process. For this reason, cool or cold blood movers (anti-inflamaging herbs) used as a dietary supplement for the elderly makes a lot of sense.
Only thing I would watch out for is if she is also taking blood thinning drugs. These blood moving herbs might cause too much blood thinning. If she’s only taking some baby aspirin, this formula is okay to take.
