Details of Temperance ANX

Suan Zao Ren calms anxiety and makes you feel more supple inside.

Notes: When your body is accustomed to being calmed by the presence of alcohol, giving that up can give rise to anxiety.

Temperance ANX regulates all of those neurotransmitters and sleep mechanisms needed for safe, natural, and 100% drug-free calm.

Alcohol is thought to have a warm, nature in Chinese medicine. A little bit like we think of chili peppers as hot. Alcohol doesn’t freeze very easily either. That too is due to it’s “hot” nature, at least according to Chinese medical theory.

Herbs in this formula cool the internal heat that causes anxiety and restlessness. They also calm the spirit and support an internal environment conducive to calm… caalm… caaaalmmmm….

Ingredients
Ye Jiao Teng 夜交藤 corydalis rhizome Caulis Polygoni Multiflori
Fu Shen 茯神 spirit poria Poriae Sclerotium pararadicis

  • Ye Jiao Teng is a vine that nourishes blood. This particular component of blood isn’t really red blood cells so much as the neurotransmitters that circulate within. Fu Shen is very good at calming as well as helping detoxify the body by stimulating urinary output.

Zhu Ru 竹茹 bamboo shavings Caulis Bambusae in Taeniis [Pregnancy Note]
Huang Lian 黃蓮 coptis rhizome Rhizoma Coptidis

  • These bamboo shavings “clear heat” from the “Heart”. Gardenia fruit removes heat from the “Liver” and “Heart”, and the Coptis removes heat from the “Stomach, Large Intestine and the Heart”. Let’s face it, you don’t want heat inside of you when you’re trying to relax. No matter where the heat comes from, it ends up rising to the Heart where internal heat causes restlessness and anxiety. Obviously this is Chinese medical theory again.

Ban Xia 半夏 pinellia rhizome, pinellia tuber Rhizoma Pinelliae Ternatae [Pregnancy Note]
Chen Pi 陳皮 aged tangerine peel, citrus Citri reticulatae Pericarpium

  • These two herbs “dry damp” which is a secondary complication of drinking alcohol. It is easy to recognize that alcohol is warm in nature, but it also causes facial bloating or edema. We call that “dampness”. These two herbs help regulate the fluid metabolism for the dampness.

Zhi Shi 枳實 unripe bitter orange, chih-shih Aurantii Fructus immaturus [Pregnancy Note]

  • Ever notice how standing in line can make you restless and anxious, but when you’re moving, it is less of a problem? This herb gets your insides moving to address some of that sense of restlessness or anxiety.

Hu Po 琥珀 amber Succinum

  • This is a particularly good calming herb. It is thought to work thanks to its heavy mineral nature which anchors the spirit. This herb is like holding a balloon down with a rock, basically. The balloon is your anxiety being blown around in the wind. The rock prevents that. Got it?

Yuan Zhi 遠志 Chinese senega root; polygala Radix Polygalae Tenuifoliae
Shi Chang Pu 石菖蒲 sweetflag rhizome; acorus Rhizoma Acori Graminei

  • These two herbs are more for clarity of mind. Calming on a somewhat different level than the majority of the herbs above that address the heat in the Heart. These work to clear and focus the mind.

Gan Cao 甘草 licorice root Radix Glycyrrhizae [caution]

  • This herb helps all the others work together better. Think of it as a warm sweet mother who’s very presence will call down the harsh properties of a group of loud aggressive young men. That’s exactly what it’s doing here. Harmonizing the personalities of all the herbs in this formula to prevent side effects.

  1. Note: symptoms such as a state of confusion, visual hallucinations, fever, convulsions and “black outs” are considered a severe form of acute alcohol withdrawal and medical intervention is indicated which means, go see your doctor!
