About this formula:

This formula provides herbal support for the emotional side of menopause. In particular it addresses insomnia, irritability and restlessness. By comparison, the Menopause Thermo Chill Pill is more for the thermal aspect of menopause and targets hot flashes and night sweats more effectively. It is okay to take both formulas at the same time.

Ingredients:

Dang Gui 當歸 tangkuei, Chinese angelica root Radix Angelicae Sinensis

• Dang gui is probably the most famous of all herbs associated with woman’s health. Women benefit from its blood nourishing and circulatory functions. Chinese medicine recognizes that dang gui’s blood nourishing support is of great value in restoring a frustration-free change of life.

Bai Shao 白芍 white peony root, peony Paeoniae Radix alba

• Bai shao’s properties of nourishing the blood also serve to regulate the so-called “liver qi” which could be described as having a calming influence.

Chai Hu 柴胡 hare’s ear root, thorowax root, bupleurum Radix Bupleuri [caution]

• Spreads qi and removes frustration. This herb works with Bai Shao to help spread and circulate the qi. This ends up looking a little bit like calming the nervous system from the biomedical perspective.

Xiang Fu 香附 cyperus, nut-grass rhizome Cyperi Rhizoma

• Another qi moving herb that helps to regulate the hormones and nervous system.

Bo He 薄荷 field mint, mentha Herba Menthae Haplocalycis

• This mint is not the flavored oil you might find in candy or what not. The stems of cooling mint support the circulation of qi which addresses frustration and irritability.

Sheng Di Huang 生地黃 Chinese foxglove root, rehmannia (fresh),Rehmannia root Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae

• Sheng Di Huang cools the blood. Cool blood calms you down so you don’t get so angry that your blood boils. Seriously, when anger causes bleeding, we sometimes use Sheng Di Huang.

Zhi Mu 知母 anemarrhena rhizome Rhizoma Anemarrhenae Asphodeloidis

• This herb removes “deficiency heat” which is like saying that a car is overheating due to a lack of radiator fluids. When the body lacks fluids, it gets hot. Zhi Mu targets that particular kind of heat, especially when associated with intimate dryness or excessive thirst.

Bai Zi Ren 柏子仁 arbor-vitae seed; biota seed Semen Biotae Orientalis

• Calms palpitations, nourishes sleep. Like suan zao ren, bai zi ren is famous for nourishing the Blood to effect the physical (biomedical) and metaphoric (Chinese medicine) Heart. It stimulates the production of those neurotransmitters in the brain that address restlessness and insomnia.

Suan Zao Ren 酸棗仁 sour jujube seed; zizyphus Semen Zizyphi Spinosae

• Eliminates insomnia, absorbs sweat. Suan Zao Ren is another one of those herbs that “nourishes Blood” to address insomnia and restlessness. Suan Zao Ren is famous for deep restful sleep. Suan Zao Ren’s secondary function is to absorb inappropriate sweating which can help to prevent further loss of the body fluids needed to calm and nourish the Heart.
