When we think about over-the-counter pain remedies, there are only a few. Aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen etc. However Chinese medicine likes to know the cause of the pain before trying to treat it.
For instance, aches and pains that are triggered by cold weather are addressed differently than menstrual pain or pain that is dull rather than sharp.
- Back Pain – up and down the spine, may be dull or achy, often worse in cold damp but not always. Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (without Ren Shen and Gan Cao)
This version contains no Ren Shen (ginseng) or Gan Cao (licorice) both of which may be problematic for people with high pressure and are not vital to the formula.
- Juan Bi Tang is a variation of the Du Huo Ji Sheng and may be even more suitable for cold damp.
- Roaming is for general pain over the body – maybe after an accident or surgery.
- Flexible Fingers is special for hand and foot pain.
