  • Anytime you see the name of an herb in a formula’s name, that means that herb is really crucial to the functions of the formula. We call those the “king herb”. In this formula, chai hu Bupleurum is the key herb that promotes the movement of qi in the body. When the qi stagnates (usually due to monthly hormones or emotional stress) the outcome is depression) the outcome is depression and/or compromised movement in the body of things that need to move. Huang qin Scute assists the chai hu Bupleurum in opening up the channels for that healthy qi flow.

Huang Qin 黃苓 baical skullcap root, scutellaria, scute Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis [supports pregnancy]

  • This herb helps flush out the large intestine and detoxify the blood. Qi stagnation often gives rise to constipation. Constipation leads to a backup in the intestines. This backup causes heat, which rises to the heart and generates restlessness, irritability, and anxiety. You don’t want that.

  • The two herbs above both support the digestion. They are also both a bit calming. They are also both a bit support the digestion.   • This is a holdover form the original purpose of this formula, which was in the treatment of a lingering common cold. Gui zhi cinnamon twig warms up the skin and stimulates blood flow through the body, this would thus be helpful when you have cold hands and feet, especially when aggravated by emotional stress. We use just a little here.

  • Two more herbs that support the digestion. They taste good too, kind of a cola taste. Many formulas that have heavy minerals such as the long gu Dragon Bone and mu li Oyster Shell include a few extra herbs to protect the stomach from getting overwhelmed by these substances and generating side-effects of a tummy ache.

Adult Dosage

    Eagle Herbs is now supplying a 2 gram “little spoon”. (Please wash and dry before using.)

    An “average dose” is 10 grams per day of the granules or 20 capsules.

    A Big Dosage for Short-lived but intense issues: 3 little spoons (12 capsules) twice a day.

    A Smaller Dosage for Lingering low-grade concerns: 2 little spoons (8 capsules) twice a day.

    If you are very sensitive to medicines: start out low (1/2 little spoon or 2 capsules) once per day, and raise the dosage each day.
