Ingredients
Huo Xiang – Aromatically transforms Dampness, harmonizes the Middle Jiao , stops vomiting and releases the exterior.
Bai Zhu – Tonifies the Spleen, tonifies Qi , dries Dampness and stabilizes the exterior. With Da Fu Pi, strengthens the Spleen, assists transportation, dredges clogged Stagnation, facilitates the removal of pathogenic water and Dampness, and reduces edema for treatment of Spleen Qi Deficiency with Dampness Obstruction (loss of appetite, epigastric and abdominal fullness and distention
Hou Po- Transforms Dampness, promotes the movement of Qi , warms and invigorates the Spleen, and descends Rebellious Qi .
Zi Su Ye -Releases the exterior, disperses Cold and moves Spleen and Stomach Qi .
With Huo Xiang , releases the exterior, regulates Qi , warms the Middle, and transforms turbidity.
Bai Zhi – Expels Wind and disperses Cold.
Jie Geng – opens the lungs
Da Fu Pi – Promotes movement of Qi , descends Qi , expels Dampness, promotes urination and reduces edema.
With Hou Po and Chen Pi, for epigastric and abdominal distention and discomfort with difficult bowel movements associated with stagnant Qi and Dampness.
Sheng Jiang – alleviates epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting by strengthening the Spleen, protects Stomach Qi and reduces irritation of the gastrointestinal tract by other herbs.
Ban Xia 半夏 pinellia rhizome, pinellia tuber Rhizoma Pinelliae Ternatae [supports pregnancy ]
The key action of this herb is drying dampness. To put that into familiar terms, it promotes the healthy functions of the stomach. Healthy stomach functions mean less gurgling and nausea.
Fu Ling 茯苓 sclerotium of tuckahoe, China root, hoelen, Indian bread Poria Cocos
Fu ling dries like Ban Xia, but also calms the spirit. Doesn’t make you sleepy or anything, just calm.
Chen Pi 陳皮 tangerine flavedo, tangerine peel Pc. Citris
Another drying herb, but this one also promotes qi movement which can be thought of as regulating the part of stomach functions that require the help of the nervous system.
Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草 licorice root Radix Glycyrrhizae prep. [caution ]
Honey friend licorice root. Mmm! This herb actually nourishes and moistens. The other herbs are very drying, this herb prevents them from being *too* drying and causing constipation.
