It contains the core four herbs used to build qi in the body, plus the core four herbs used when there is a deficiency of blood. Add to that two more herbs to support the digestive organs and you’ve got one potent mixture that brings qi and blood to all the organs of the body.

Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草 licorice root Radix Glycyrrhizae prep.
These four herbs make up “si jun zi tang” or the four-ingredient basic formula to stimulate the efficiency of the digestion leading to support for all organ systems that require nutrition.
Shu Di Huang 熟地黄 cooked rehmannia root, prepared Chinese foxglove root Rehmanniae Radix preparata [supports pregnancy ]
Dang Gui 當歸 tangkuei, Chinese angelica root Radix Angelicae Sinensis [supports pregnancy ]

These four herbs make up “si wu tang” or the four-ingredient basic formula that supports the blood. Shu di huang, dang gui, bai shao directly support the bodily functions that produce blood, while dang gui and chuan xiong support blood circulation.
