Description

Tai Mai Wan supports energy levels that have been compromised by chronic illness and especially those that involve heat in the lungs and stomach. As the qi and yin have been damaged there may be thirst and fatigue and a general body weakness.  This is an alternative to Sheng Mai San that we created and we substitute Tai Zi Shen (“Prince Ginseng) for Ren Shen. This makes the formula even more for heat signs as well as bring the cost down.

Like Sheng Mai San, the major indication for this formula is a chronic cough that has depleted the fluids. There might be shortness of breath and spontaneous sweating. There should be no phlegm to use this formula. I also heard from a patient that this greatly helped his stress induced asthma and took away a lot of his chronic anxiety as well.

Tai Zi Shen (Pseudostellaria)  or “Prince Ginseng” is used here to raise basic energy levels and cool heat. It is said to be gentler than Ren Shen and I find that it better tolerated by most Westerners.

Mai Men Dong 麥門冬 ophiopogon tuber Ophiopogonis Radix generates fluids for a chronic cough and moistens the intestines for a “dry” constipation. If you are feeling irritable – not necessarily angry – then Mai Men Dong is very good.

Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae) is very sour and as such “brings in” or “tightens up” energy even as it creates fluids. It is said to stop chronic dry cough (without phlegm) and sweating that happens for no reason (spontaneous sweating). It also calms the spirit that seems to be flying around.

The tongue for both Sheng Mai San and Tai Mai Wan is often very red although there might be patches of heavy coating as well.

Which one to choose? If you have more loss of energy then Sheng Mai San is best. If there is more heat, dryness and irritability then try Tai Mai Wan.

(This formula is NOT for you if you have dampness, a large hearty body and/or fatigue that gets better momentarily with exercise.)

  • DOSAGE:
Eagle Herbs is now supplying a 2 gram “little spoon”. (Please wash and dry before using.)
An “average dose” is 10 grams per day of the granules. This means 5 “little spoons” or 20 capsules each day. Each capsule is 1/2 gram.
A Big Dosage for Short-lived but intense issues: 3 little spoons (12 capsules) twice a day.
A Smaller Dosage for Lingering low-grade concerns: 2 little spoons (8 capsules) twice a day.
If you are very sensitive to medicines: start out low (1/2 little spoon or 2 capsules) once per day, and raise the dosage each day.
We find that people find the right dosage for themselves. We don’t know your body weight, your sensitivity etc… So take what feels good for you and you get the results you are looking for. Many people get great results with taking less.
