Added to Sour Stomach is Fang Feng, Huang Qi and Bai Zhu which make up the formula Yu Ping Feng and help with moderating potential allergens. Shen Qu helps with food digestion.
Here is a description of some of the other herbs used in both Wonky and Sour Stomach:
In Chinese there is this great wordย ้ ธ suฤn (pronounced like swan – more or less). It can be applied to all sorts of body parts and situations.
The Wenlin dictionary has these entries for suan:
ยนsuฤn s.v. โ sour; tart | Zhรจ pรญngguว (apple) hฤn (very)โผ. The apple is very tart. โกsore; aching; tingling | Wว (my) yฤo (back) ย โผ le. My lower back hurts. Or ย โ sick at heart; grieved; distressed ย ยฒxฤซn (heart) suฤn (sour)
This formula is for that “acidity/ sour stomach” like the queasy feeling after eating some greasy food.
The Huo Xiang is great for resolving dampness.
The Huang Lian is a very bitter herb that can reduce acid. It is very strong and shouldn’t be over used. It strongly moves downward.
The Jin Yin Hua “detoxifies”
The Bo He (mint) lifts the turbidity from the stomach.
