Formulas for Animals Cross Reference

The herbs used for animals and those for humans are the same. We have been selling our “human herbs” to a number of pet lovers and veterinarians for years now. That being said, we aren’t vets here so please do your research or get a recommendation from a qualified vet when ordering. The page here is for reference to send you to the page to order the herbs you and your pet may need.

Pain due to either Osteoarthritis or Muscle Pain are forms of “bi pain” in Chinese Medicine

Coix Formula/ Yi Yi Ren Tang – stiff movement, dislikes cold and wet weather, better with hot and dry weather, not as much pain – our formula contains NO ephedra (Ma Huang)!

Sang Ji Sheng San – aka as Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang the base of Loranthus Formula

Si Miao San is used when there is an accumulation of damp causing tiredness, edema or obesity, and/or damp skin conditions.

Di Huang Yin Zi can help if there is hind leg weakness. Very weak body at this point.

Bu Yang Huan Wu is for an even weaker pet. (We no longer use Di Long in our formula because it cannot be imported.)

Disc problems, spinal cord injuries or head trauma

Huo Luo Xiao Ling Dan-  we use this when there has been trauma, physical injury or sprain. Tissue trauma is a common outcome of working too hard, lifting something too heavy or anything that causes a bruise to the body, whether it can be seen or not. This would also apply to sprains and strains.

Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang – Persica and Carthamus Combination (Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang) Drive Out Stasis in the Mansion of Blood – This can be used if there have been multiple surgeries or injuries that seem to cause pain.

PLMD and RLS Writings

The below are various writings Al Stone from his earlier website. Note that Al used to sell products on BeyondWellBeing and we no longer sell from that website.

“WHY DO MY LEGS FEEL RESTLESS AT NIGHT?”

According to traditional Chinese medicine, It all comes down too much heat in your body. Heat can originate from a variety of issues, but they all lead to restlessness. Our treatment principle then is to cool off that internal heat. Restless legs is only a superficial symptom of the more systemic restlessness caused by heat disturbing the spirit of the heart. Sound unscientific? You bet. Fortunately, there is nothing more scientific than an herbal medicine that has been getting the job done for hundreds of years.

“YEAH, BUT WHERE DOES THIS PERIODIC LIMB DISORDER COME FROM?”

We say generally that RLS is due to heat and periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) is due to wind. In TCM, our goal is to calm or extinguish it. Wind in the body is commonly associated with neurologic movement disorders. Any tic, tremor, spasm or convulsion is considered wind blowing around inside the body. Does your wind kick up when you’re falling asleep?

RopinoHerb RLS for restless leg syndrome is based on Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan (Heavenly Emperor’s Nourish the Heart Pills). This formula first appeared in the text “Secret Investigation into Obtaining Health” published in the year 1638. This formula nourishes the Kidney yin to cool the heat in the Heart causing restlessness.

Other ingredients assume other possible causes for internal heat that rises up to the Heart to cause restlessness. While this article that describes the cause of RLS focuses on Yin deficiency, TCM practitioners never assume that any two people will present with the exact same cause for their internal heat. So, this formula also addresses a number of the lesser known but commonly found causes for internal heat.

SO, HOW MUCH to get?

Get the small size if you’re unsure as to how you’re going to respond to the herbal formula. If you have a history of having allergic reactions to botanical products, this is a safe choice. Get the large size if you know what you want and you want it now. :)

It may take longer than one week to see results from this particular product if its cause is due to a yin deficiency. Herbs have been added to this formula that also address the more quickly treated causes of these problems as well. This formula may be perfect for you, but it simply takes up to a month before you really see improvement. You may have had this problem for ten years, so don’t expect an herbal formula to take it away in a week. This is not a reasonable expectation. For more on how long it will take for your condition to resolve, please see the Eagle Herbs Prognosis-O-Rama.

While this article that describes the cause of RLS focuses on Yin deficiency, TCM practitioners never assume that any two people will present with the exact same cause for their internal heat. ZANG-FU (organ) THEORY EXPLANATION

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the cause of restless leg syndrome is heat in the Heart causing your spirit to become agitated. The end result is that you experience restlessness when trying to sleep.

The following “statements of fact” support this idea. All of the big words on this page come from one of a few classic texts in Chinese medicine that date back to the time of Christ. Perhaps that’s why some of us call the “Huang Di Nei Jing” the “bible” of traditional Chinese medicine.

THE SHEN IS STORED IN THE HEART. The Shen is the Spirit.

In TCM, certain organs store stuff. In biomedicine things like nutrients are stored in fat cells. In Chinese medicine the Shen is stored in the Heart. That can suggest something holy and eternal, but clinically speaking it also applies to your personality, demeanor, memories and certain cognitive functions. This spirit is stored in the Heart. In biomedicine, they’d put most of these “spirit” functions into the brain and/or central nervous system.

THE HEART IS SENSITIVE TO HEAT.

In TCM, each organ is hypersensitive to one unique type of weather. In the case of the Heart, it loves to feel warm, but hates to feel hot. When it feels hot, the spirit that it stores can become restless. “Five element theory” describes the different environmental factors that effect the organs in the body according to this theoretical tradition.

THE KIDNEYS ARE THE SOURCE OF YIN AND YANG.

According to the theory of Zang-Fu (which essentially translates to “internal organs”) the Kidneys are the source of yin and yang in the body. Yin is body fluids and cooling mechanisms in this context. Yang is metabolic heat for this discussion. When Kidney yin is deficient, the body can get hot giving rise to hot flashes and night sweats. This is something like when your car’s radiator is low on fluid, the car can overheat. This doesn’t happen because the engine is running too hot, but because the radiator yin, or fluid is deficient.

KIDNEY YIN DEFICIENCY LEADS TO HEART YIN DEFICIENCY.

Because the Kidneys are the source of Yin, when the Kidneys get dry, the Heart gets dry also. When the Heart gets dry, the spirit that is stored in the Heart has nothing to anchor it down as the Heart yin generally does. I can’t quite think of a good analogy for this. Needless to say, the spirit as a substance is light and airy. One of the jobs of the yin of the Heart is to give the spirit a nice moist place to reside. When that moisture is deficient, the spirit becomes flighty, fidgety, and a little bit over dramatic. Other symptoms of Heart yin deficiency include panic attacks, heart palpitations, anxiety, and insomnia.

THE KIDNEY’S DEFICIENCY HEAT RISES TO THE HEART.

Back to the radiator fluid causing the car to overheat. When the body gets hot because of its lack of cooling mechanisms, that heat will rise in the body to the Heart where it agitates the spirit and causes restlessness. Between this mechanism and the Heart yin unable to anchor the spirit, it can become a real problem emotionally and physically.

KIDNEY YIN DEFICIENCY LEADS TO LIVER YIN DEFICIENCY.

When the Kidney yin is deficient all the other organs that rely on body fluids for their balanced function become dry. Most often, it is the Liver that suffers first from the Kidney yin deficiency.

LIVER YIN DEFICIENCY CAN CAUSE INTERNAL WIND.

Just like the Heart can get too hot when there aren’t enough fluids to cool it, the Liver too can generate some problems when it gets dry. The problem it causes is called internal wind. Internal wind makes our hands, feet, or other structures shake and tremble. Biomedicine would described these things mostly in neurological terms (nocturnal myoclonus). Internal wind can look like anything from a tic in your eyelid, to periodic limb movement disorder (which often arises with restless legs), to some forms of epileptic seizures.

Please do not assume that if you have PLMD that you need to be treated for epilepsy. This is wrong even though there are some similarities according to TCM theory. Periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) is characterized by involuntary leg twitching or jerking movements during sleep that typically occur every 10 to 60 seconds, sometimes throughout the night.

KIDNEY JING IS THE MATERIAL SOURCE FOR KIDNEY YIN.

So why does Kidney yin become deficient? There are a few causes. If you recently had a high fever and your urine is now looking darker than usual, you’re dehydrated. Drink more fluids, take some herbs if you want for your yin, you’ll get over it. However there is another cause for a Kidney yin deficiency. This cause is called Kidney jing deficiency. Jing is sometimes translated as “essence”. You may recall that the Heart stores the shen. Well, the Kidneys store the jing. Jing has a number of functions. One of which is to stimulate periods of growth in our lives. For instance, when your reproductive organs start to mature this is moderated by the Kidney jing. Menopause is timed by the jing too. This jing is also the precursor to Kidney yin. So, a jing deficiency can cause a yin deficiency.

AGE DEPLETES KIDNEY JING.

This is why restless leg syndrome has a tendency to effect the elderly more than the young. It is because their jing is naturally being used up, so they develop a deficiency of yin causing all of the issues that have been described above.

KIDNEY JING IS TRANSFERRED FROM PARENTS TO OFFSPRING.

Kidney jing comes mostly from our parents, and it is passed on to our children. If our parents have a tendency toward jing deficiency, it is likely that we will too. Because as we get older we have less jing, the issue of children with a jing deficiency increases with age. According to TCM, this is why some birth defects favor the children of parents who are older such as Down’s syndrome.

family history of RLS is seen in approximately 50 percent of such cases, suggesting a genetic form of the disorder. People with familial RLS tend to be younger when symptoms start and have a slower progression of the condition. This supports the idea that RLS comes due to a jing deficiency. If you get it from your parents, it will arise earlier in life. If you are just naturally running out of jing (as we all do) it’ll show up later in life.

TREATMENT PRINCIPLE: NOURISH THE KIDNEY YIN, CLEAR HEART HEAT, EXTINGUISH LIVER WIND.

We have two herbal formulas that are modified slightly to achieve these aims of nourishing Yin, cooling heat, and extinguishing wind.

RopinoHerb PLMD for periodic limb movement disorder. This formula is based on Da Ding Feng Zhu (Major Arrest Wind Pearl). This formula appeared originally in the book “Systemic Differentiation of Warm Disease” which was first published in 1798. This formula nourishes Yin and sedates wind to address the jerky movements associated with this “internal wind”.

Eagleherbs.com sells both granules and capsules. Read about the difference here:  What’s the difference? But to save you the time- :-)  We use the exact same granules in the capsules. Capsules are just a lot more convenient but more expensive as you are paying for our time to put them in capsules. (Some people try to make their own capsules… its really time consuming and messy). Since you will want to take these formulas every day I would suggest splurging on the capsules.

International Orders

International Orders

[International Shipping]

Sorry…. this is not a good news page… We have successfully shipped to lots of countries. We can do Canada no problem. If you are in England I can refer you to a friend who can help you out. We sell a fair amount to Australia a fair amount. But the shipping costs internationally is expensive. Usually $65US – and you may incur custom charges.

If you have friends in the USA and they buy and send them to you as gifts is an option that might help at customs. There are also export companies that can expedite your order. Latin American customers have been using this. I assume it works well.

Customers have asked if we can send the herbs as “gifts” to get around this but we can’t do that legally (we subscribe to the Bob Dylan quote: “To live outside the law, you must be honest”).

So Yes, we do ship internationally but due to many country’s import regulations, we cannot guarantee that your international order will go through or that you will get hit with a customs fee.  Unfortunately, we cannot issue a refund of any kind for orders seized, returned, taxed or destroyed by Customs. Refunds will  not be issued. You, the buyer assumes all risk. Sorry.

We put a label on the outside of each international package which says: “For personal use only – not for resale – no commercial value

Please understand that we make our formulas just for you. When they are returned, sometimes months later, the herbs are useless to us and we have lost all the money we refund to you and the herbs it took to create them.

For example, if you have ordered $300 worth of herbs and you do not receive the herbs you will have lost $300. We, at Eagleherbs cannot recoup the cost of the herbs, the labor and the shipping costs.

AGAIN: WE WILL NOT REFUND ANY MONEY FOR HERBS THAT YOUR COUNTRY MAY HAVE REFUSED, RETURNED TO US OR GIVEN A HIGH TARIFF ON. Believe me I wish it were otherwise. Sorry, a fair amount of Eagleherbs came from international sales and I hate to lose this business but I feel have to warn you. I would love to keep your business but this is the situation.

We only ship through the United State Postal Service (USPS). It is the least expensive and I’ve explored a lot of other options. We are a very small company. Other (huge) companies such as iHerb are probably shipping from countries with special rates that were created for Asian countries to stimulate trade. Here is an article from the Washington Post which explains so things.  https://www.washingtonpost.com//storyline/wp/2014/09/12/the-postal-service-is-losing-millions-a-year-to-help-you-buy-cheap-stuff-from-china/?utm_term=.147e63d652fd

We don’t do Black Friday.

Black Friday is a strange American consumer ritual where stores offer big sales the day after Thanksgiving in late November. And Eagleherbs is a strange site. We would like to think we are a medical site yet we sell directly to the consumer by virtue of self diagnosis. We think that you folks can make reasonable choices when given the right information. If not then you can choose for some quick emails or pay for a full telephone consultation.

We don’t sell willy nilly to consumers just because we can make a buck. We care about your health and we want to make sure you get the best herbs for your needs. Therefore, we don’t do Black Friday. If we can we offer deals and discounts when we can but our job is to get you better.

Info – About the origins of Eagleherbs

In 1995, Al Stone, initiated the first major website devoted exclusively to Chinese medicine known as acupuncture dot com. He was a dedicated herbalist and had an herbs only practice as well as acupuncture.

Although he regrettably sold Acupuncture.com to pay for a study trip to China, Al went on to create Gancao.net. Soon after he began laying the foundation for Eagleherbs by way of Beyondwellbeing and Gancao.net. In late May of 2013, Al Loren Stone L.Ac., DAOM, the founder and owner of Eagle Herbs, passed away.

You can read more about this remarkable man at Eagleherbs.com/About/Al

Al was a very healthy guy but things happen. He got a disease that couldn’t be cured. During his last months Al asked me (Doug) to take over his baby, Eagleherbs.com. After a steep learning curve, we (me and his assistants) put things back up running and have changed a few things while continuing Eagle Herbs quality services. Eagle Herbs had been growing with the support of many loyal customers and we thank you for your understanding and for the many letters of appreciation we have received.

The statements made at EagleHerbs.com have not been reviewed by the FDA.

Products described at Eagleherbs.com are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, because only DRUGS can do that. In fact, that’s exactly how the US government defines a drug, it fixes problems.

At EagleHerbs, we love the USA, and support the FDA’s goal of protecting consumers. However, this requires that we jump through some verbal hoops here at EagleHerbs to make legally sanctioned “structure-function” claims. In other words, we can regulate, stimulate, and support internal organs and their functions, but we cannot claim to fix most problems. Hopefully, we’ve achieved this goal.

EagleHerbs extracts powders are mixed into formulas and inserted into capsules in our Santa Monica, California offices. We can offer so many different variations and modifications of formulas because we mix them to order, one at a time. Your herbs are not aging in some gray warehouse.

Welcome to EagleHerbs. Be well, be VERY well.

Shipping Rates & Speeds

priority_mail

Shipments from EagleHerbs arrive courtesy of the good folks of the United States Postal Service’s Priority Mail service. We send International Orders by Priority Express. See the note below.

USPS Priority Mail shipping and handling:

  • Shipping within the USA: $8.50(USPS)
  • Shipping to Canada: $39.50
  • Shipping to all other countries: $ depending on the country and amount. We ship Priority Express – it is often $65US.

We encourage you to use an address that is secure as we accept no responsibility for the package after it has been delivered by the USPS.

Good news: On orders big enough to require a box Eagleherbs actually ships for less than we charge in order to use a larger box. We figure that the extra order is worth the slight hit we take on this cost.

INTERNATIONAL

We may send you an email for orders outside of North America. Please respond to the email if you still want the order to go through. If you do not respond we may still send it and you will be responsible for the order.

Yes, we do ship internationally although it is getting harder and harder to do so (except for Canada which is no problem). Actually, it is fairly easy for us to ship but harder and harder for you to get them. Many countries are not allowing supplements in at all (France) and those that do may impose heavy custom fees. Spain can be up to $100 for a small bottle. We have had several shipments refused in Brazil. We will not ship now to Brazil.

Due to many country’s import regulations, we cannot guarantee that your order will go through.

Unfortunately, we cannot issue a refund of any kind for orders seized, returned or destroyed by Customs. Refunds will  not be issued.

If you have friends in the USA and they buy and send them to you as gifts, well: thats out of our hands. I am looking for distributors in places like England, Ireland and Australia as well as the European countries who might be able to help.

How long will herbs take to get to you outside of the US? The following are representative of actual time periods necessary. These are measured in continuous days from when the order was sent from Eagle Herbs to the day that it is recorded as delivered. These day numbers include time spent in customs and weekends. We ship our herbs overseas as “health supplements”. Again, note that EU countries are tightening up on regulations on herbal supplements causing delays at customs.

Yeah, we’re totally with you on this. We would be reading this page too.

The upshot will be something along the lines of don’t worry, because we don’t share your contact information, personal data, ANYTHING. Period. We don’t like to exploit customers’ personal information for marketing either.  Just don’t like it when others do that to me, so there it is.

Sometimes we may put a positive feedback letter up when we have your permission and without your name.

We do require your phone number when you buy something. There are a few reasons for this. Sometimes a formula will contain an herb that we don’t ship without a quick chat such as Fu Zi (Rx. Aconite). Or if there is a problem with your order, we can contact you quickly to resolve it.

In regards to financial information security, the Paypal site is where any and all credit card numbers are inputted, none of that takes place at EagleHerbs.com, and Paypal is about as a secure a site as you can find.

That is all, continue on with your day now.

Be well, be VERY well.

Most of this page was written over almost 10 years ago and its still all true. Since then the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enacted in Europe. As far as we know we comply with this although we aren’t going to send a notice to everyone to say that we aren’t going to bug them with unnecessary emails (which seems kind of silly). Thanks, Doug 2018

Terms ‘n Conditions

If your purchase is damaged in the mail a free replacement will be sent.

All damage claims must be made within 30 days of purchase.

It should be noted that in the 20 years that we’ve been sending out herbs, this hasn’t happened more than twice. Herbs are sent out in resilient plastic bottles. Damage in postage just doesn’t come up.

However the efficacy, taste, and other functional realities of an herbal formula is not something that we can guarantee. There are simply too many variables outside of our control such as your compliance (did you take the medicine?) and sometimes unreasonable expectations.

A good example of unreasonable expectations would be thinking that a problem that has been around for 30 years should go away after taking herbs for one dose or day or even one month. However we do want to give you a better idea of what reasonable expectations can be made, and we do that through our wildly popular Prognosis-O-Matic.

We have a lot of formulas and we need to update the prices as herb prices fluctuate. This is all done “by hand” and occasionally we make mistakes. If there is a mistake in pricing we reserve the right to refund your money for that item at that price (including all shipping etc..) In other words: you get your money back, I correct the price and you can decide if you still want to buy at the new price.

Al Loren Stone

Al Stone, L.Ac., DAOM

Al Stone, L.Ac., DAOM (licensed acupuncturist and doctor of acupuncture and Oriental medicine)

Al Stone, L.Ac, DAOM: In 1995, Al Stone founded Acupuncture.com, a site that earned numerous awards and international goodwill while he was in the driver’s seat there.

Al was a graduate of both the masters and doctoral programs at Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, CA, where he also served as an intern clinic supervisor and classroom instructor for many years.

To his great regret, he sold acupuncture.com in order to pay for his trip to China. He then founded other popular Chinese medicine related websites such as gancao.net and eagleherbs.com.

Gancao.net serves practitioners of Chinese medicine and provides insight into Chinese medicine diagnosis and the legalities surrounding the use of Chinese herbal supplements. Gancao.net also provides hundreds of case-studies and healing protocols for and by acupuncturists and Chinese medicine herbalists worldwide.

Eagleherbs.com was the outcome of his 15 years of experience in bringing the highest level of herbalism to the online community. Creating customized formulas following an extensive consultation was unheard of in the early days of the internet, but because of Al Stone’s significant online presence, the need to provide this service became clear beginning in 1995. He had been working with individuals all over the world since then.

After graduating in 1997, he traveled to China where he expanded his education as an intern at the Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There, in the “springtime” city of Kunming, he worked side-by-side elder doctors who were experts in internal medicine. It was from these elder masters that he witnessed the profound benefits that herbal medicine can provide, as well as the path of the Lao Zhong Yi (elder Chinese herbal medicine doctor) that became his professional path.

His online mission is to reach those who don’t have access to a professional grade Chinese internal medicine practice.

Al Stone maintained a private practice based in Santa Monica, California since he returned from China in 1998.

Al’s patients had often sought out his help for digestive concerns, gynecology and male urology, dermatology and stress related disorders. Emotional, neurological, and hormonal issues such as depression, anxiety, insomnia all respond very well to Chinese herbs and offer a significant improvement in his patients’ quality of life.

In 2012, Al found out that what he thought was a minor eye problem was being caused by a rare but deadly ocular melanoma. Despite western treatment and Chinese herbs, Al passed away early in the morning of May 24th, 2013 with his brother, Ken, at his side.

Al Stone was also a provider of continuing education for physicians, nurses, and acupuncturists. Topics of education include:

For Chinese medicine practitioners:
Pulse Diagnosis Made Ridiculously Simple

For Chinese medicine herbalists:
United States Dietary Supplement Act for Chinese Medicine Herbalists
Herb/Drug Interactions: Mechanisms and Tiered Risks

For Western trained physicians and nurses:
East/West Integration: Risks and Rewards

Al Stone was also on a AAAOM committee charged with arriving at guidelines for manufacturing practices for private herb practitioners who make their compounded herb formulas to order. [more]

He was an avid enthusiast of tai chi, meditation, bicycle riding and drumming circles in Southern California, USA.

“Al was my good friend. He had some wonderful assistants working with him at Eagle Herbs and we promised him we would carry on with the business with the same quality that he had always provided. I am also an acupuncturist and herbalist and had know Al for over 20 years. So for a couple of decades, we had long, long discussions about herbs and the best way to know and prescribe them.

Al was not afraid of dying and as he was a very spiritual man as things go, even in his illness, he did it with humor and class. Before he died, Al asked me to take on Eagleherbs.com. We had a very intense month of making the transition before he passed away.

As Al said, ‘Everything changes.’  ”
