Description
Astragalus Decoction
Huang qi (astragalus) is famous for stimulating the immune system as well as the digestion.
Alternative Names
Sometimes, you simply haven’t got the “umph” to push out your stools. This is the formula specifically for this condition.
It isn’t a purgative, there is no irritating the intestines to stimulate the bowel movement, rather this is a gentle formula that is taken over time at a low dosage to address the digestive functions while at the same time gently moisturizing the intestines to help guide out the poop.
One of the key ingredients in this formula is Bai Zhu atractylodes which has been shown by research in China to be particularly effective for this unique kind of constipation.
This constipation is unique in that it arises with a sort of lack of strength in bearing down. Another unique symptom of the pattern that this formula addresses is that one can feel fatigued after passing a bowel movement , even to the point of passing out.
Ingredients
Zhi Huang Qi ็้ป่ honey fried astragalus root, milkvetch root, Astragali Radix
Huang qi strengthens the digestive functions . It’s good for the immune system and Lung functions too. can’t really go wrong with this herb.
Ren Shen ไบบ่ ginseng root Radix Panax Ginseng
Another herb (and a famous one at that) to stimulate the efficiency of the digestion resulting in more muscle strength down at the end of the line where it is required to push out.
Chao Bai Zhu ็็ฝๆฏ toasted white atractylodes Radix Atractylodes Macrocephalae
The ancients considered the Huang Qi to be the most important herb in this formula, however modern research kind of favors this chao (toasted) bai zhu (atractylodes) for this qi deficiency type constipation where you simply don’t have enough strength to push out .
Chen Pi ้ณ็ฎ aged tangerine peel, citrus Citri reticulatae Pericarpium
This herb regulates the qi in the abdomen. Put into more familiar terms, it regulates the intestinal movements , which is what is lacking in a case of constipation. However because just about any problem in the intestines can cause gurgling and what we call “dampness”, this herb is often used to prevent dampness from becoming a problem as well. In practice, we use it for bloating and gurgling .
Huo Ma Ren ็ซ้บปไป hemp seeds, canabis seeds, linum Semen Canibis
This herb is used to lubricate the intestines, helps things slide through more easily . There is no psychogenic functions in marijuana seeds. None at all.
Dang Gui ็ถๆญธ tangkuei, Chinese angelica root Radix Angelicae Sinensis [supports pregnancy ]
Dang gui also helps to lubricate the intestines . We call it a blood tonic. Blood is considered to be one of two lubricating substances for the poop in Chinese medicine. The other is “yin” (or body fluids) which is what the huo ma ren above generates.
