This formula provides herbal support for the thermal regulation side of menopause. In particular it addresses hot flashes (hot flushes) and night sweats. By comparison, Menopause Emo Chill Pill more effectively targets the emotional aspects of menopause such as irritability, depression, insomnia. It’s okay to take both formulas at the same time.

Sheng Di Huang 生地黃 Chinese foxglove root, rehmannia (fresh),Rehmannia root Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae

Shu Di Huang 熟地黄 cooked rehmannia root, prepared Chinese foxglove root Rehmanniae Radix preparata [supports pregnancy]

• Sheng Di Huang and Shu Di Huang are the same herb. Sheng Di is raw rehmannia, while Shu Di is steamed rehmannia. Rehmannia is a thick black herb that grows deep into the ground. This root depth suggests that it can nourish very deeply. This is of great benefit to the hormonal system because it supports reproductive functions and hormones. The raw form of this herb is also good at cooling the blood which will result in more comfort.

Bai Shao 白芍 white peony root, peony Paeoniae Radix alba [supports pregnancy]

• Menopausal hot flashes are often associated with a deficiency of yin-fluids and blood, this herb’s cold temperature and blood nourishing affects can help to moderate the body’s hormones (which flow within the blood) and heat associated with menopause.

Chai Hu 柴胡 hare’s ear root, thorowax root, bupleurum Radix Bupleuri [caution]

• This herb works with Bai Shao to help spread and circulate the qi. This ends up looking a little bit like calming the nervous system from the biomedical perspective, but it also promotes a nice calm, comfortable cool too.

Mu Dan Pi 牡丹皮 moutan root bark, tree peony root bark Cortex Moutan Radicis

• This is the bark of the peony tree root. It cools the blood. Cool blood is good for hot flashes, you can call this hormonal regulation too.

Mu Li 牡蠣 oyster shell Concha Ostreae

Long Gu 龍骨 dragon bone; fossilized vertebrae Os Draconis

• These two herbs are both calcium based medicinals. I’m not saying that they’ll prevent osteoporosis, that’s kind of an unknown at this point, but we do have 2,000 years of history with these herbs and their ability to regulate sweating.

Huang Qin 黃苓 baical skullcap root, scutellaria, scute Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis [supports pregnancy]

The shao yang channels are a funky location where heat can collect leading to hot flashes, but with the addition of frustration and general emotional disharmony. Xia Ku Cao 夏枯草 selfheal spike, prunella Spica Prunellae Vulgaris

• Xia Ku Cao is a spicy herb which helps cool heat that is rising.

This formula can be used to support health with or without symptoms. If symptoms are present, take 1 level teaspoon of the powder (8 capsules) three times daily.
